VIOLIN CONCERT

A Classic touch to Carnatic
By Velcheti

It was a cascade of pure notes of Carnatic classicism wafting from the distinct strings of well known MS Gopala Krishnanan's violin in concert with that of Dr. M. Narmada add MSG Suresh Kumar that wrapped Kalabharati in melody and rhythm here today. Packed with classical nuances, the violinist trio, featured by Visakha Music Academy, treated the music lovers to a rare taste of pristine purity of Carnatic musical idiom.

The inaugural piece Sankarabharana Varnam setting the tone for the evening, the tonal purity coupled with tender bowing technique in the treatment of chosen piece enhanced its musical appeal. Well-structured Mohana, the star piece of the day, in its elaborate treatment at leisurely pace turned into a piece connoisseur's delight. The highlights of the evening were Siddivinayakam in raga Chamaram, Dudukugala in Goula, Sankarineve of Subbaraya Sastry in Begada and Kalyani.

K. Sadguru Charan on mridangam and S. Hanumantaha Rao on ghatam lent commendable support.
