The 38th annual music festival of visakha music academy in the city will feature several top artistes from November 22 to 27.
Sangeeta Kala Sagara to be conferred on trio of artistes this year
Announcing this at a press conference here on Sunday, VMA President A.Prasanna Kumar said that VMA had been presenting Sangeeta Kala Saagar and Natya Kala Saagara titles since 1979. This year the prestigious title of Sangeeta Kala Saagara would be conferred on the trio of artistes T.V. Sankara Narayana (Vocal) of Chennai, Mridangam Maestro Vankayala Naraasimham of Gudilova from the city and Violin Exponent Dwaram Managathayaru also from Chennai.
Mini awards
Mr.Sankaranarayanan would perform on November 23 and Ms. Mangathayaru accompanied by Mr. Narasimham, on November 26. "Apart from this, we are also giving away mini festival awards.
The best concert awards of the mini festival conducted in June this year goes to Dr.Harita Charan (vocal), Radhika Mohanty (mridangam)", he said.
VMA vice-president S.V.Rangarajan said that VMA earned a reputation as a good organization treating music lovers to quality programmes. Other artistes performing during this festival would be Sriram Parasuram and Anoorada Sriram (Carnatic-Hindustani jugalbandi), S. Sashank (flute) also from Chennai, Pantula Rama (vocal, Vizag) and S. Sowmya (vocal) from Chenni. Veteran artistes like Dwaram Durgaprasada Rao, Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao, Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao and others would also be seen in action.
VMA secretary M.S. Srinivas said, the M.S. Subbalakshmi award instituted by VMA in 2005 would be presented to Ms.Sowmya this year.
The award carries Rs.10,000 cash. Compere Perala Balamuralikrishna also spoke.
