Topic     : Transport Sector in Smart Country Development
Abstract  :
India has embarked on an ambitious plan of development of Smart cities following urban development strategies of Europe and the West. Use of new technologies in improving standard of life with sustainable development in various sectors including transport sector is the essence of smart development. Can we have an integrated smart transport system in a single city alone, or is it to be developed in a larger region and finally, the country as a whole? Movement of people, cargo and goods, energy sources etc is carried out using transport infrastructure and devices such as roads, trains, air, water and pipe lines. Whereas there has been some development in infrastructure of road, rail and air, there has been very little development in the water sector. The paper discusses modern technologies in the transportation sector and the need for integrating the various modes of transportation which may lead to safe and sustainable development joining the whole country in a single network.
